Schenectady woman accused of killing baby gets new attorney
The Schenectady woman accused of dropping her baby down a drainage pipe at General Electric has a new attorney.
Persia Nelson appeared briefly Wednesday in Schenectady County Court. Mark Sacco has been assigned as her new attorney because her previous attorney had a conflict, according to the court clerk’s office.
Nelson is accused of causing the death of her nearly 11-month-old daughter Halo Branton. Police found Nelson in a heated utility building on the GE campus on March 10. She told police she had no idea how she got there and couldn’t find her baby. A frantic search of the property found the baby in a utility access pipe in muddy water up to her chest. An autopsy found that Halo died from exposure and hypothermia.
Prosecutors said the case is now ready for trial. Nelson is due back in court on Nov. 20 at 9:30 a.m.
