Scotia man allegedly led police on a chase, crashed car

A Scotia man was arrested after police said he led them on a chase through two counties before crashing his car in Schenectady.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Market 32 in the town of Clifton Park at around 2:30 a.m. Ricky G. Rickson, 54, allegedly had a hallucinogenic substance. He then took off from officers, speeding through Saratoga County, Glenville and Schenectady, according to police. During the pursuit, he is also accused of striking a patrol vehicle. 

The pursuit ended when Rickson crashed his car on Summit Avenue, police said.

Rickson was charged with one felony count and one misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failed to use designated lane, speeding, passing a red light, driving left around traffic island, and failing to obey a police officer.

He was arraigned in the Clifton Park Town Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail before being released to community supervision.
