Search underway for pair accused of ramming trooper’s car
A search is underway in Brainard at the Columbia-Rensselaer county line for two men.
The men stole a truck and rammed a troop car as a trooper was getting into it, police said.
This began as a police chase, which started at the Dollar General in West Lebanon when two men drove west on Route 20 with an alleged stolen truck. The police chase lasted over three miles until it ended at the intersection of County Route 13 and Kinderhook Road. That’s when the stolen truck crashed into a New York state trooper’s patrol car with the trooper getting into his vehicle, police said.
NewsChannel 13 spoke with the truck owner, and he said his truck was stolen around 5 Sunday morning in Pittsfield M.A. He also said his truck was significantly damaged in the crash. The driver said those men drove his truck to the Dollar General.
The crash into the trooper’s car might have been intentional, investigators said.
Now a manhunt is underway for two men. The two men fled on foot.
Police have been searching all over the area, they said, with some officers now done searching today. There were helicopters as a part of the search, according to neighbors.
There is no word on if the trooper was hit during the crash.
