Second person charged in Cairo horse abuse case
Another person has been arrested in connection with a horse abuse case in Cairo, Greene County.
As NewsChannel 13 reported in May, Skylar Nolan, 25, was arrested after 13 horses were found emaciated at a property on Kirwin Road in the town of Cairo.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told NewsChannel 13 another man, property owner Vincent Melapioni, 59, of Staten Island, has also been arrested, and charged with animal cruelty.
Melapioni and Nolan did not have enough hay, grain, or other supplements for the horses they had, according to the SPCA, and the hay at the farm was filled with mold.
Both Melapioni and Nolan now face several charges that each carry up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The horses are now being treated at the SPCA.
