Thursday, August 24 is a tough day for many people in the Fort Ann community, as services are being held for Rycky Stark Jr.
Rycky, 14, was unintentionally shot and killed by a friend August 16, at an apartment at 3 Charles Street in Fort Ann, said investigators.
There were four kids there that night – ages 13 to 17 – messing around with a shotgun.
Police have charged a 17-year-old boy with manslaughter, saying he fired the shot that took Rycky’s life.
Police and prosecutors don’t believe the fatal shooting was intentional. However, the district attorney has not yet decided whether to pursue those charges as an adult or adolescent.
Rycky was heading into his freshman year at Fort Ann Central High School.
His world revolved around basketball, according to his obituary. His all-time favorite player was Michael Jordan.
He enjoyed playing Xbox, riding his bike and scooter, and spending time with his pug.
When asked what he wanted to eat, he would say chicken wings, pizza or Pop-Tarts.
Calling hours for Rycky are from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday evening at Mason Funeral Home on George Street. There will then be a gathering and candlelight vigil at the Fort Ann Firehouse from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
