A teenager is dead after a shooting in Fort Ann Wednesday night.
The 14-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen at an apartment building on Charles Street. This happened at about 5:30 p.m., sources tell NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland.
The boy was rushed to Glens Falls Hospital — and not to Albany Med. Albany Med is the closest trauma center. Sources tell Mulholland it may be because the boy wasn’t stable enough to go to Albany.
According to a law enforcement source, Washington County Sheriff’s investigators are interviewing other children who were there at the time of the shooting.
Washington County District Attorney Tony Jordan confirmed Wednesday night that police sought search warrants for the building where the shooting took place, which is just off busy Route 4.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with the help of police investigators.
Fort Ann is about 65 miles north of Albany and according to census figures has a population of approximately 5,500 people.
