Siena fires men’s basketball coach Carmen Maciariello
Siena Men’s Basketball Coach Carmen Maciariello was fired by the school on Wednesday morning.
It comes amid a 4-28 season for the Saints.
“The decision was made after we got back from the MAAC tournament,” according to Siena Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “We went through the pros and cons and the different options.”
Maciariello was promoted to head coach in 2019, after serving as assistant coach. He graduated from the school in 2001, and was also Siena’s director of basketball operations during the 2005-2006 season under Siena Athletics Hall of Famer Fran McCaffery.
Maciariello’s contract ran through the 2025-2026 season.
A search will now get underway for a new coach. The details of that search are still to be determined, said D’Argenio.
“We’re still working out all those details um on how it will be done,” he said. “Do we use a search firm? Do we not use a search firm? You know, those are things that we still need to nail the details down on.”
Meanwhile, D’Argenio is asking other staff to stay in place while a search gets underway for a new coach.
