Three hurt in small plane crash in Vermont
A plane crashed Wednesday morning in Manchester, V.T.
There were no fatalities but all three people on board were airlifted to hospitals with non-life threating injuries.
The plane was a piper manufactured single engine plane and crashed in a rural area on one of the highest peaks in Southern Vermont, Mt. Equinox. Mt. Equinox stands at over 3,800 feet in elevation.
The pilot of the plane called 911 at 8:33 a.m. to report that his plane had crashed.
The plane was located at around 10:16 a.m, according to the Manchester Police Department.
Rescuers had to climb through multiple feet of snow on the mountain to find the crash site.
Manchester Fire Department’s 1st Assistant Chief Jamie Greene said the heavy snowpack on the mountain might have saved lives.
“The snow helped cushion the fall. he was able to guide from what I could tell, he was able to guide through a couple of trees just perfectly, and the way that the fuselage, when it was the snow really helped cushion everything,” said Greene.
The FAA and the NTSB said that they are investigating the crash with the FAA expected be on the scene on Friday.
