Snowmobile falls through ice at Sacandaga Lake; No one hurt

Two people were on a snowmobile that fell through the ice on Sacandaga Lake.

It happened on Monday afternoon about 200 feet southwest of Sand Island on the lake, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said.

The people were able to get off the sleds and out of the water on their own, Sheriff Rich Giardino said.
This a reminder that portions of the lake ice are still too thin and unsafe, the sheriff cautioned.

William Gifford died on Jan. 12 after his Utility Task Vehicle fell through the ice.
