Soares to launch write-in bid for DA

David Soares launches write-in campaign for district attorney

After losing the democratic primary, Albany County D A David Soares is launching a write-in bid for the upcoming election.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares is set to formally launch a write-in campaign for re-election, after losing the Democratic primary last month.

Soares lost to defense attorney Lee Kindlon in the June 26 primary. Kindlon captured 55% of the vote.

Soares, who is seeking his sixth term, is holding an announcement at 11:30 a.m. at his headquarters at 50 State St.

Kindlon launched his bid following a controversy in which Soares awarded himself a bonus of over $20,000 using grant funding. Kindlon promised to restore accountability to the office.

Soares has focused on Raise the Age and other policies that he says are hindering ability to fight crime.

Ralph Ambrosio is the Republican candidate in the race. He is a former assistant DA in Greene and Columbia counties and assistant attorney general under Dennis Vaco.
