State assemblyman co-sponsors new bills to protect minors online
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is co-sponsoring two new bills to protect children’s mental health and privacy online.
One is called “The Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation for Kids Act.”
It focuses on preventing social media platforms from providing addictive feeds to those younger than 18. It would also prevent notifications from being sent to kids from midnight to 6 a.m.
The other bill, “The New York Child Data Protection Act,” would restrict digital services from collecting the personal data of children under 18 without consent and includes strict regulations on sale or disclosure of data.
“Children deserve a safe and secure online environment where their privacy is respected. The New York Child Data Protection Act is a crucial step towards ensuring that children can explore the digital world without fear of exploitation or invasive data practices,” Santabarbara said.
