State encourages energy conservation, safety during hot weather
As the Capital Region prepares for a heat wave, New York state officials are urging everyone to stay safe.
The Department of Public Service is working to make sure everyone is able to stay cool during this time, they said.
“We also plan and coordinate with the local utilities to ensure that during periods of stress like this, they have both the staffing needed to respond to emerging situations, but also the material, the resources and other equipment to do so quickly to ensure that service interruptions – should any occur – can be restored quickly,” Department of Public Service Chair Rory Christian said.
To keep power on, officials encourage everyone to reduce energy during the hottest time of the day, and to do laundry, wash dishes, etc. during the early morning or after sundown.
If you do happen to lose power or just want to stay out of the heat, there are several cooling centers opening their doors across the Capital Region. You’re advised to call them in advance.
