Police: Man tried to stealing cooking equipment

A Columbia County man is accused of trying to steal cooking equipment.

New York State Police arrested Boice J. Crawford, 31, of Valatie on Wednesday for attempting to steal commercial-grade cooking equipment.

A report on Wednesday morning around 6:00 a.m. from a Rensselaer County resident stated that they observed Crawford on their property without permission and attaching their commercial-grade cooking equipment to a vehicle, with a person inside the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

The victim did not know Crawford or the person driving the vehicle, said police.

Authorities say the victim confronted Crawford before he left the property, which then he unhooked the equipment and fled.

Schodack Police found the vehicle later that morning in the parking lot of a Schodack Motel. After a search of the area, police found Crawford and took him into custody.

Police say Crawford was taken to State Police of Schodack for processing, released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Schodack Town Court, and released.

State Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
