State Police: Clifton Park man arrested for having child pornography

36-year-old Rhett W. Thornton of Clifton Park was arrested by the New York State Police on Wednesday for allegedly having child pornography.

Authorities say Thornton is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation.

Police say his arrest was after investigation and execution of a search warrant at his residence on Wednesday.

Officials say the investigation stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Thornton was arrested at his home and charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child (class D felony) and possessing a sexual performance by a child (class E felony), said State Police.

He was taken to State Police Clifton Park for processing, arraigned at Clifton Park Town Court, and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash, $10,000 bond, or a $50,000 partially secured bond.
