Gloversville police officer accused of accessing records

A Gloversville police officer is accused of improperly accessing records.

Chance Petteys, a Gloversville Police officer was arrested June 17 on a charge of official misconduct after State Police say he abused his authority by accessing records then using that information to contact people in a “unprofessional manner” after police interactions.

State Police allege Petteys, 21, used computer equipment to gain access to records, turning off his body camera so his actions stayed hidden. In addition to official misconduct, he has been charged with:

  • Computer trespass
  • Unauthorized use of a computer
  • Tampering with public records second degree

Petteys, who is from Johnstown, was been placed on administrative leave during the investigation and has been employed with the Gloversville Police Department since April 2023, according to State Police.

Petteys case was reassigned to a special prosecutor from the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office after the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office recused themselves. He is due back in Gloversville City Court on June 24.
