State Police investigating two assaults near Capitol

Two people have been assaulted in Albany near the Capital within the last three weeks – which has one union representing state workers on edge.
State Police said the first one happened just after 7 p.m. on Dec. 26. The victim told police that they were walking in the area of Madison Avenue. They were approached by a man they didn’t know who asked for money. The victim declined, and the suspect struck him in the head.
Troopers searched the area but did not find the suspect. He was later identified as 53-year-old Andre Lundstrom. He was arrested on Jan. 2 and charged with harassment and criminal mischief Lundstrom was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court.
Police received a complaint on Wednesday, Jan. 15 of a past assault. The victim was walking from the East Garage toward the Madison Avenue entrance to the Empire State Plaza. They were approached by person they didn’t know and struck in the head, police said. The victim reported the assault.
Police believe the assaults are random and unrelated. They are urging everyone in the area to stay alert.
