The state Senate is passing legislation that will make limousines safer in New York.
Limos will need to be outfitted with roll-over protection devices to protect people in crashes, lawmakers said. They also need be equipped with emergency tools like fire extinguishers and window break devices.
Penalties will be increased for operators who disobey inspection rules.
The changes come after the deadly crash in Schoharie back in 2018, where 20 people were killed.
The goal, they say, is to make sure people are as safe in a limo as they would be in any other car.
