Stefanik requests federal probe of Saratoga school district

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is calling for a federal probe of the Saratoga Springs City School District because she said the district is violating President Donald Trump's order banning transgender athletes from competing in girls sports. The New York Post reported that Stefanik sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon seeking an investigation.

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is calling for a federal probe of the Saratoga Springs City School District. The district is violating President Donald Trump’s order banning transgender athletes from competing in girls’ sports, she said.

The New York Post reported that Stefanik sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon seeking an investigation.

This comes after the Saratoga Springs Board of Education on March 27 passed a resolution “Affirming Our Support for Every Student.”

The resolution said that the district “reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and high-quality education for every student.”

“Recent federal executive orders and communications targeting transgender students, immigrant youth, and important educational policies are antithetical to the principles of access and inclusion that define our schools and our community.”

The resolution said they reaffirmed their commitment to equity, inclusivity and diversity and that they support immigrant students – regardless of immigration status. They also support transgender and gender-express students.

The district sent a statement to NewsChannel 13 on Monday in response to a request for comment on Stefanik’s call for an investigation.

In March, the Saratoga Springs Board of Education passed a resolution titled Affirming Our Support for Every Student.

The Saratoga Springs City School District adheres to all applicable laws and regulations, including New York State Education Law, the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), the New York State Human Rights Law, and the guidelines of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). Additionally, the district’s practices align with joint guidance issued in February 2025 by the New York State Education Department and the New York State Office of the Attorney General.

The Saratoga Springs City School District remains committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for every student. We are confident that our district’s policies are fully in compliance with New York State law.
