New data reveals mixed picture of academic performance across the state

The data shows noticeable gaps in language, arts, math and science. The state plans to host a series of community meetings to discuss their findings.

New student test scores released by the state Education Department show that there are some gaps in achievement.

A total of 46% of students in grades three through eight were proficient in English language arts and 52% were proficient in math.

Around 35% of students in fifth through eighth were proficient in science.

The goal is to get those students up to the 70th percentile.

The state plans to hold a series of community meetings to discuss their findings.
