Suspect, 16, indicted in fatal Schenectady shooting that killed 15-year-old
A 16-year-old male has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting in Schenectady last October that killed a teen and seriously injured another.
The suspect, who is only being identified as D.S., is accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Dubar Knowles at a large party on Congress Street on Oct. 12, 2024. The bullet went through Knowles’ chest and struck a 13-year-old girl in the back of the head, according to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office. The teen needed surgery to repair skull damage. She has largely recovered.
DNA found on the bullet was linked to D.S., according to prosecutors.
The suspect has been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence. He has been sent to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility pending further proceedings.
Knowles played football and basketball. A coach described him as shy as first, but outgoing once you got him to open up.
Knowles was the brother of Medina Knowles, who was killed by then-20-year-old Raekwon Stover in September 2016. Stover was dating 17-year-old Medina Knowles. Stover eventually made Medina prostitute herself for money. When she refused to do it anymore, prosecutors said Stover got angry and shot her in the head with her son and siblings in another room.
Raekwon Stover was sentenced in March 2017 to 25 years to life in prison.
