Teacher charged in gun case appears in court

The Guilderland teacher arrested in two different communities went before a judge on Thursday.
Akili Abdul-Ducan appeared in Guilderland Town Court. He is accused of leaving a gun at Dave & Buster’s at Crossgates Mall back in 2021. Abdul-Duncan allegedly did not have a valid pistol permit.
His attorney, Evan Lane, asked to delay the case for at least three weeks because he needed more time to prepare the case.
Lane declined to comment on camera, but told NewsChannel 13 that his client is a family man and a father of a special needs son.
“I think that it would be a mistake to rush to judgment in this case,” he said.
His next court date is April 2 in Rensselaer City Court, where he is facing weapons charges.
