‘That upset me’: Lake George sign gone and it’s not the only problem

Stolen sign, damaged property, drag racing upsets business owner

The iconic ‘Welcome to the Village of Lake George’ sign right as you turn onto beach road is gone! The Warren County Sheriff’s Office tells us it’s being investigated. However, the vice president of a well-known tourist attraction tells NewsChannel 13 that’s not the only problem happening in town.

Luke Dow said it started during the pandemic.

“Burning rubber during the weeknights.”

Only now, Dow said he’s started to notice an awful lot more nonsense happening.

At first, it was drag racing on the Beach Rd. Now, Dow said traffic cones are being taken, the Lake George sign is gone, and someone is messing with The Lake George Steamboat Company’s property. Dow is the Vice President of the company.

“We have a gator on sight that we use. Someone tried to go John Wick on it and use a screwdriver in the ignition to steal the gator and start the gator.”

It didn’t work, but Dow said someone tried again.

“Our warehouse guys were like, ‘someone monkeyed with our gators again.’”

It was the last straw for Dow, before calling the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said they’re looking into the case of the stolen sign, and patrols in Lake George are closely monitoring Beach Road for any signs of racing.

“I think has helped a lot with keeping the activity down over there. Now folks know they’re being watched. Enough’s enough.”

Warren County residents want the sign back.

At the moment, it’s unclear if the stolen sign, the drag racing, and messing with the property are at all connected, but it’s being looked into.
