At Hoosic Valley High School, math isn’t just a subject—it’s an experience, thanks to this week’s Top Teacher, Mary Suite. Known for turning tough equations into joyful lessons, Suite has been recognized by NewsChannel 13 as a Top Teacher for her passion, humility, and lasting impact on students.

“There are math teachers who talk about making their class fun. I just have fun,” Suite said with a smile. Her approach to teaching is rooted in genuine enjoyment, and it’s something her students immediately pick up on.

Instead of sitting through lectures, students in Suite’s classroom engage, question, and participate.

“They want to do well. They want to understand,” she explained. “They’ll stop me and ask questions—or even point out my mistakes—because they care about learning.”

That engagement is clearly paying off. Many of her students go on to careers in engineering, nursing, and other fields where math plays a critical role. “Math is the tool that keeps them going,” Suite said.

Though she’s being recognized individually, Suite is quick to share the credit with her peers. “Hoosic Valley has so many wonderful teachers,” she said. “I learned so much here from so many fabulous educators.”

Students, however, are quick to highlight Suite’s unique talent. Senior Ethan Meeks beamed, “She totally deserved it. I’m very happy for her.” Fellow senior Chris Tracy added, “She doesn’t just tell us, she shows us. That makes a big difference.”

Her influence stretches beyond current students. “My two older brothers had her, and they loved her class,” said senior Andrew Thompson. “Her classes are hard—Algebra Two, Calculus, Pre-Calc—but I’m glad she’s the one teaching me.”

With her infectious energy and dedication, Mary Suite is not only teaching math—she’s shaping futures, one equation at a time.
