BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (WNYT) – A tree fell into a neighbor’s house Thursday afternoon after severe storms hit the area.

Jack Aversa was inside his house with his family on Sand Spurrey Road the moment the tree came down. He said in the moments before the tree fell, massive hail began to fall from the sky and the winds began to pick up.

“I just had the door open in the front and was taking a video, and all of a sudden I heard boom! And then I saw the ceiling come down, and it, my wife was sitting on the couch, so I wanted to try to get her to safety as soon as possible,” Aversa said.

He said all of his family was able to get out of the house safely with no injuries, but it was a close call.

“The wallboard did come down in her head, but luckily it didn’t come down. And, you know, it hit her hard, so I think. Yeah, she’s okay now,” said Aversa.

NewsChannel 13 also spoke with the neighbor next door, Samantha Abdul-Haqq, who called 911 the moment she noticed the tree just after it had fallen.

“I was in shock. So, I just wanted to make sure everybody was okay and alive because we had trees down before here and people got hurt. So, I just wanted to make sure everybody was okay,” said Abdul-Haqq.
