Man admits to causing fatal 2022 crash as trial was to begin
A man pleaded guilty Monday to vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal crash – moments before his trial was going to begin.
Caezare N. Ebron, 37, is accused of causing the death of Kyreem Softleigh in the crash.
It happened on Nov. 25, 2022. Police stopped a vehicle in the area of Central Avenue and North Lake Avenue. Ebron was allegedly asleep at the wheel.
When officers approached, police said Ebron took off toward Bradford and Ontario streets. He ran through a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle traveling south on Ontario Street, police said.
One of the occupants of that vehicle, Kyreem Softleigh, died in the crash. Two other passengers were injured.
Ebron was driving while intoxicated and left the scene of the crash, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
Ebron faces 12 ½ to 25 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 6.
