Local financial analyst watches mourners in Rome

Local financial analyst Steven Bouchey watches mourners in Rome from the death of Pope Francis.

People continue to pay their respects to Pope Francis, who is lying in state in Rome.

One of those tens of thousands of mourners is Steve Bouchey, a financial analyst from Troy.

He was visiting Rome and decided to extend his stay for the funeral. He spoke with NewsChannel 13’s Subrina Dhammi about what it has been like.

“The city is busier and busier by the minute. A lot of people are coming in. They’re getting about 50,000 people a day going through St. Peter’s Basilica. Last night, it was so busy they actually kept it open all night long, because so many people were coming from work and coming from out of town to pay their respects,” he said.

Bouchey also got a private tour of the Vatican. His tour guide was Father Anthony Ligatto, who is also from Troy. He has a significant position within the Vatican to help plan the concave to select the next pope.
