The Troy mayor and police chief are working to get guns off the street as part of an effort to stop youth violence, they told NewsChannel 13

Two teens, ages, 14, and 11, were shot Sunday just before 1 a.m. while they were standing outside the home on Fourth Street near Maidson Street.

Gun arrests are three times what they were this time last year, according to Police Chief Dan DeWolf.

Also, they have been able to use some grant money to pay for overtime to deploy more police patrols.

Mayor Carmella Mantello said that she is concerned that the girls were outside near their home at that hour. However, it is not like that area is a hot spot for crime.

Mantello said Troy is focused on having programs for youths to keep them involved in activities.
