Troy Police: Watervliet man choked, hit man he met online

A Watervliet man has been arrested for allegedly assaulted a man he met through social media.
It happened on Monday around 1:30 p.m. at an apartment at 750 2nd Ave. Police said Jahnye Griffin, 21, had connected with the victim on social media. They arranged to meet up at his apartment. When he arrived, Griffin allegedly began punching, choking and hitting the man, police said
Griffin left the scene. The man had serious injuries and is recovering at a local hospital.
Police found Griffin on Thursday night and arrested him. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, assault and robbery. Griffin was arraigned in Troy City Court and sent to Rensselaer County Jail.
Police are reminding the public to be careful when meeting a person online. People are encouraged to meet in a public place, tell a friend or family member where they are going to be and be cautious if they do not know enough about the person.
