First Black police captain reflects on career
First Black police captain reflects on career
NewsChannel 13’s coverage of Black History Month with a look at the Troy Police Department’s first Black captain.
Anthony Conyers was promoted to captain in 2021. The lifelong resident of Troy started as a patrolman at the age of 19. Now he’s in his 20th year with the department.
He went on to become a sergeant after seven years of patrol work, working as a detective sergeant within that role. Conyers said moving up the ranks wasn’t easy, but he is grateful for his position as the internal affairs captain.
He is hoping the department continues to move forward.
