Two Albany Police officers involved in crash released; Two still in hospital
Two of the four Albany Police officers involved in a two-car crash on Wednesday have been released from the hospital.
Two are still in the hospital with serious head injuries, police said.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Quail Street.
The four officers were responding to a call for backup during a domestic incident in the area of Slingerlands Street and Second Avenue. During that incident, two police officers were exposed to powder cocaine that police said Rahmel Carter, 38, of Albany, had in his possession.
The two officers exposed to cocaine have been released from the hospital, police said.
Carter was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of unlawfully possessing or selling noxious material, criminally using drug paraphernalia, obstructing governmental administration, tampering with physical evidence, criminal contempt, harassment.
He was arraigned in Albany City Court on Thursday morning and sent to Albany County Jail without bail. He is due back in court on Sept. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
