Crews responded to an early morning fire in Colonie.
The fire broke out around 3 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, a vacant hotel on Wolf Road.
The fire was contained to one room on the hotel’s top floor and was quickly extinguished.
Nobody was inside or near the building when responders arrived on scene and there were no injuries.
Remaining portions of the hotel sustained water and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A preliminary investigation suggests the fire was set accidentally by someone who entered illegally.
The Town of Colonie reports that the security of the property has been an ongoing issue, with homeless individuals suspected of using the property as a shelter.
