As our media partners at the Berkshire Eagle report, one Pittsfield family on vacation to the island of Maui turned into a mission to help the people there.
Nicole and Lee Nagata were traveling with their three children ages 13,9,and 3.
On August 8 they learned about the wildfires ravaging Maui, while at the Los Angeles International Airport.
Lee is from Maui.
So when the family arrived on the island — they decided to stay and help rebuild.
Right now — Nicole and her family are volunteering at the Maui food bank and creating amazon wish lists of essential items for people displaced by the fires.
She encourages people to donate to the Maui strong fund or to Maui United Way.
