A lost dog is safely back home thanks to the efforts of an Amsterdam police officer.
The dog named Frankie is 15 years old, blind, and hard of hearing. She went missing Sunday night near the South Chuctanunda Creek. Her owner feared the dog had fallen down the steep bank and into the creek.
Sgt. Cory Lapati was able to spot Frankie off in the distance walking along the creek bed. It was too steep for her to climb back up on her own.
It took a few tries, but Lapati was eventually able to find a spot where he could climb down and get to Frankie. By the time he got to her, she was in a pool of water. Body cam video shared on the police department’s Facebook page shows how Lapati was able to get a leash on Frankie and carry her back to the safety of her owner.
