Washington County man accused of having sex with 12-year-old girl
A 29-year-old Washington County man has been indicted on the state’s most serious child sex abuse charge.
John D. Petteys Jr., formerly of Greenwich, is facing 10 charges including the top count of predatory sexual assault against a child. He is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl, according to court documents.
Petteys also is accused of producing sexual content with the girl.
Petteys was charged with one count each of criminal sex act, use of a child in a sexual performance and promoting a sexual performance by a child. He is facing four counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Petteys was sentenced in Washington County Court in March to 14 years in prison on charges of criminal sale of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
Washington County District Attorney Tony Jordan said in a news release that as a result of that investigation, evidence came to light resulting in the new child sex abuse allegations contained in the indictment.
Petteys was one of three men arrested in August 2022 and indicted later that year on weapons possession charges. The arrest followed a seizure by State Police of two fully automatic machine guns and more than 40 high-capacity rifle and pistol magazines at the residence where the three men were staying, according to The Post-Star, NewsChannel 13’s media partner.
They were accused of manufacturing various firearm parts to convert weapons into fully automatic firearms, the paper reported.
Jordan thanked the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, State Police Computer Crimes and Major Crimes Division for their work in this investigation.
