Watervliet man indicted for alleged assault of man he met on social media

A Watervliet man has been indicted for allegedly attacking a man he met online.

Jahnye Griffin, 21, had arranged to meet a person at his apartment in Lansingburgh on March 24 around 1:30 p.m. When Griffin arrived, police said he punched, choked and hit the man.

Griffin left the scene. The man had serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

A Rensselaer County grand jury indicted Griffin on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, burglary, two counts of robbery and one count of strangulation, according to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.

Griffin is currently being held in Rensselaer County Jail.
