Watervliet offering free Thanksgiving meals to residents
The city of Watervliet, local business and civic organizations are teaming up to give hot Thanksgiving meals to residents.
Equinox provided that service for many years, but it announced earlier this year that it was ending its distribution. Mayor Charles Patricelli said the city is stepping in. People in need of a meal are asked to complete a form with the name of each person seeking a meal at that address. It is exclusively for Watervliet residents.
Meals will be delivered on Wednesday, Nov. 27 starting at 2 p.m. by police, firefighters, city staff and volunteers.
Patricelli said in a news release that he anticipates handing out around 200 meals this year.
Registration must be completed by 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.
Monetary donations are being collected at the Watervliet Housing Authority or Watervliet City Hall. Checks can be made payable to the Watervliet Housing Development Fund.
Anyone with questions can call the Watervliet City Clerkâs office at 518-270-3800 ext. 115 or the Watervliet Housing business office at 518-273-4717.
