Watervliet Police: Repeat offender arrested on 10 larceny charges
A man is facing several charges in Watervliet after being arrested more than a dozen times in the past three months.
The Watervliet Police Department said they arrested Carlos Nieves, 32, on Dec. 7 after he stole several items from the Price Chopper on 19th Street. Nieves also allegedly resisted arrest and injured an officer in the process. Police say Nieves has been involved in 10 larcenies from this store, which totals to $1,500 in stolen property.
Nieves had been arrested 32 times in New York State since 2008. Thirteen of these arrests have occurred since September, according to officials.
“The defendant’s serial criminal history exemplifies the challenges to incarcerate proven criminals.” Watervliet Police Chief Joseph Centani said. ” He has contributed to the erosion of the quality of life for countless citizens and businesses in the Capital District.”
The suspect was also arrested 10 times in Florida between 2018 and 2020.
along with 10 counts of Petit Larceny, Nieves is facing charges for Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Government Administration. He was released and is set to appear in court at a later date.
