Weight loss company Jenny Craig announces plans to shut down

Weight loss company Jenny Craig is going out of business.

The company – founded in 1983 – told employees in an email Tuesday it will close due to “due to its inability to secure additional financing,” reported NBC News.

Hourly center employees were dismissed on Tuesday. Corporate and salaried employees’ last day of work is Friday.

There had been prior talk to transition to an online only model, but there is no indication that will happen, reported NBC News.

More than 1,000 people work for the company.
