More details revealed in cause of Whitehall water crisis. A water main break identified a leak.

The water crisis in Whitehall was caused by a number of issues, the mayor said.
That includes a water main break that pointed to the location of an ongoing leak within the water system, combined with the drought from a couple months ago.

“The Village’s normal day to day water usage, combined with leakage related to the age of our water system, the age of our water system, and the drought of the past few months, all converged to provide a perfect scenario where the head pressure at Pine Lake was no longer sufficient to push water to the Village’s drinking water treatment plant, and on into the Village,” said the mayor.

The state of emergency is still in effect, and people still need to conserve water.

The village is urging residents to limit the length of showers and run dishwashers and washing machines only when they have a full load.

Do not drink tap water without boiling it first.

Bottled water is still available at the village firehouse.

Schools reopened in Whitehall on Thursday for the first time since the village lost water on Sunday evening, due to an issue at its water plant.

The village is working to find long-term solutions to the water problems, they said.

Meantime, the mayor is thanking everyone who has been helping residents through the water crisis.
