Rakayla Austin has been living at Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple’s homeless improvement program since Christmas Day. That’s the unused portion of the Albany County Jail converted into a homeless shelter.

Austin keeps her room ship shape, which happens to be idle training for her next mission in life, a stint in the U.S. Marines.

Up until her arrival in the program, Austin was in a bad situation.

The direction, motivation, the positive reinforcement she said she’s gotten here changed her life, enabling her to pass the test to become a marine.

Learn more about how Austin said the program helped her get to where she is today, by watching the video of Dan Levy’s story.
