There was a big promotion for a National Guardsman at the headquarters in Latham on Thursday.
William Solmo of Brooklyn became the top-ranking warrant officer in the New York Army National Guard. Solmo, an Iraqi War veteran, was promoted to Command Chief Warrant Officer 5 at a ceremony on Thursday afternoon, replacing Chief Warrant Officer Mark Shumway of Greenwich.
Solmo has served in the National Guard since 1986.
