Celebrating Cancer Survivors
The parking lot of Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center was the site of celebration this week. Nearly 100 people gathered to celebrate National Cancer Survivors’ Day and to mark the 10th anniversary of the Cancer Center Community Crusaders. That nonprofit group of volunteers provides financial and emotional support to people undergoing cancer treatment.
New Double H Ranch CEO
The Double H Ranch – the nonprofit providing specialized programs and year round support for children living with a serious or life-threatening illness – has a new CEO. Allison Wilcox will lead the organization. She has been the CEO of Girl Scouts of Western New York for the past four years. The Double H ranch was founded by actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and businessman and philanthropist Charley Wood.
National Pollinator Week
The State Department of Transportation is celebrating National Pollinator Week. This includes increasing acreage with reduced or altered mowing practices to avoid disruptions to pollinator lifecycles. Department staff also maintain pollinator gardens and offer new vegetation management guidelines that include control methods other than mowing.
Dunkin’ gives back to community
Dunkin’ is celebrating the grand reopening of its location on Route 7 and giving back at the same time. They are donating $3,000 to the Colonie Youth Center, in partnership with the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. Colonie Youth Center will use the money to support its before and after school programs.
