Ice fishing contest at Grafton Lakes State Park
Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting its 38th annual ice fishing contest on February 11. Anglers will brave the cold for the chance to make a winning catch. Cash prizes are awarded to adults. There will also be prizes for kid contest winners. The contest was supposed to be this month, but was pushed back due to the warm weather.
UAlbany basketball game to honor kids with congenital heart defects
Emma Duncan will be an honorary coach at Saturday’s UAlbany basketball game. The game honors children with congenital heart defects. When Emma was 2 months old, she was hospitalized and her parents didn’t know if she would come home. Now the 12-year-old girl loves dance and horses. A portion of ticket sales for Saturday’s game benefits the American Heart Association Cardiac Kids Program, but they have to be purchased through this link.
Science and art exploration in Berkshire County
Need something to do with the kids on February break? Flying Cloud Institute and Greenagers will hold a science and art exploration program at the April Hill Education and Conservation Center in South Egremont – Berkshire County. Participants will take part in science investigations, art projects and engineering challenges. The program is geared towards kids 7 to 13 years old. It runs February 20 through Feb. 23. Happy 100th birthday to Watervliet woman
Happy 100th birthday to Lucy Amorosi.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara presented her with a proclamation to commemorate her milestone birthday.
Amorosi was born in Watervliet where her family owned a bakery that delivered fresh bread by horse and buggy.
She also worked at GE in Schenectady and at Schalmont Schools before retiring in 1985.
