Fonda Speedway one step closer to $50k prize for improvements
The Fonda Speedway is speeding to the final stage of voting for the chance to win $50,000 through the Advance My Track Challenge. Fonda is one of five speedway finalists in the country. If they win – the money would go towards improvements and enhancements of the track. Voting is going on through next Monday, May 15. The Fonda Speedway opened in 1953. It’s one of the oldest speedways in the nation. The Fonda Speedway hosted NASCAR Cup Series Races.
Niskayuna School District wins award for school safety
Safety Efforts have earned Niskayuna Central School District Utica National’s School Safety Excellence Award. The school district is one of 165 across the state to receive the award for 2023. The honor is presented annually and recognizes school districts’ safety efforts as they work to help keep students, staff and visitors safe. Niskayuna Central School District received its award at Utica National’s 41st School Safety Seminar.
Schenectady High Senior named to prestigious academic team
A Schenectady high school senior, who’s also a SUNY Schenectady science major, has been named to the prestigious All-USA Academic Team. Parmesh Thakoordial is one of 20 selected out of 2,400 students – the only one to win this in New York state. Part of the recognition is a $5,000 scholarship. Thakoordial graduates from both Schenectady High and SUNY Schenectady later this month. He started taking college courses during his freshman year of high school. His next step is medical school.
