Prestigious award for SUNY Schenectady students
Two SUNY Schenectady students have earned the prestigious 2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Niko Nyman: a dual performing arts, music and music audio technology major and David Penid – who earned his degree in Computer Science in 2022 from SUNY Schenectady – have won SUNY’s highest honor. The award recognizes students for their outstanding achievements throughout their SUNY experience in areas including academics, leadership, campus involvement, community service, and the arts.
Capital Region BOCES students win medals at SkillsUSA
Congrats to the dozen SkillsUSA New York State Champions and medalists from Capital Region BOCES. Nearly 70 students from 19 area school districts represented Capital Region BOCES during the statewide competition at the New York State Fairgrounds. Winners from the event move onto the national competition in June.
Stewart’s Shops donates money to help Camp Saratoga
Stewart’s Shops and the Dake Family are donating big money to develop an outdoor education center. The $100,000 gift will help create a focal point for visitors and users of Camp Saratoga. The center is being named for Larry Gordon – a long time Wilton leader and Saratoga County planner who spent most of his life protecting, enhancing, and promoting the conservation of the landscape of Camp Saratoga.
Averill Park’s Odyssey of the Mind team brings home medal
Members of the Averill Park High School Odyssey of the Mind Team recently advanced to the world finals.
The group took home a second place medal during the New York State Finals. They will compete at the World Finals at Michigan State University.
