The Greater Good: Teen receives humanitarian award, Burnt Hills girls’ track team breaks record

A Capital Region BOCES Career and Tech graduate with a passion for helping others is the recipient of the William Kress Memorial Humanitarian Award. Jacob Gilmore was awarded the scholarship during graduation last week. The award is presented annually to a Capital Region BOCES student who is supportive to friends and acquaintances who need someone to listen to in tough times and someone who is kind and loving. Jacob plans to become a paramedic and potentially a physician’s assistant.

Capital Region athletes with disabilities are set to line up for the annual Strides 4 Stride event on Wednesday at Jennings Landing in Albany. Athletes from Stride Adaptive Sports will be joined by other runners from around the Capital Region – completing a 5K to advocate for equal opportunity in sports and raise funds for STRIDE Adaptive Sports programs.

Columbia Memorial Health’s annual ball was a major success. Hundreds of people got together at the Locust Hill Barn earlier this month. The event raised more than $615,000 to support health care services in Columbia and Greene counties. The annual gala also honored former president and chief executive officer Jay P. Cahalan for his 28 years of service.

Congrats to the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls track 4×400 track team. They broke their own school record again, coming in first at the state championship by more than three seconds. Congratulations to Sam Torres, Cassidy Robleno, Allie O’Rourke and Mia Paolino!
