A special partnership gifted former Army Sgt. Tamim Fares a new vehicle free of charge on Thursday.

The work was a collaboration of Upstate Ford Dealers Association, Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Support Foundation, which worked with the local veteran to apply to get the car he wanted. It’s even his favorite color, green.

Fares was deployed to Iraq in 2007, and later reenlisted after becoming a sergeant to serve alongside the soldiers he trained in Afghanistan.

With humility, he said there are others who’ve sacrificed more than him, but he’s incredibly grateful.

“It is going to change me and my family’s lives, because I was riding my bike to work and swapping the car with my partner and our 1-year-old. So it was difficult, but that’s all going to change,” he said.

Since its founding in 2007, the Military Warriors Support Foundation has helped donate a free home to at least one veteran in every state, along with many vehicle donations to help in their transition to civilian life.
