Lawmakers, families and advocates all came together Wednesday for Autism Action Day at the New York State Capitol. Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara hosted the event – which is in its 11th year.

Santabarbara chairs the state’s subcommittee on autism spectrum disorders, and highlighted the legislature’s plans to do more for people living with disabilities, including a bill that would put a special evacuation plan in place for people with disabilities in schools and daycares.

Speakers included the president and CEO of Our Abilities, John Robinson. The White House named him a Champion of Change for people with disabilities, in 2014.
