California company develops new pill they say could extend dogs’ lives

A California biotech company has developed a new pill that could extend a dog’s life.
After one year of the groundbreaking clinical trial, the pill cleared a major FDA hurdle.
More than 1,000 dog owners participated in the first-of-its-kind clinical trial at more than 70 facilities around the country.
The founder and CEO of Loyal, the company behind this, says everyone has felt the pain of losing an animal, and while she said there’s no surefire guarantee they’ll be able to fix the problem in its entirety, they still aim to help.
After a year of the trial, the FDA gave it a stamp of “reasonable expectation of effectiveness,” the first for a longevity drug.
For now, the trial’s only for dogs that are least 10 years old, and are of a certain size.
The minimum weight to participate is 14 pounds, because dosing is much harder for really small dogs.
The company is optimistic that the drug will reach the market soon, possibly in the next year or so, with a price tag they’re trying to keep under $100 a month.
