New numbers show COVID-19 was the third leading cause of death in 2021.
The National Cancer Institute found that during a 20 month period, COVID accounted for one in eight deaths in the United States among people age 45 to 54.
Researchers also revealed that the pandemic also had an indirect effect on other causes of death in the United States, such as heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes.
Experts believe one reason for this is that people were hesitant to seek medical care for fear of contracting COVID-19.
